Community Involvement in Chicago

NORTH RIVER COMMISSION
Prior to moving to Tulsa, Lauren lived and worked in Albany Park. Located on Chicago’s northwest side, Albany Park is nationally known as one of the most diverse areas in the country. Committed to supporting education and community development in her neighborhood, Lauren served as the North River Commission (NRC) Vice President of Education from January 2018 through September 2021 and oversaw the Education Committee and its various initiatives.

The NRC Commission Education Committee exists to support and strengthen the network of school's on Chicago's northwest side. This is accomplished by:

  • executing marketing and branding campaigns that change the narrative about our schools

  • building relationships between schools and local arts organizations

  • championing and lifting the student voice in our community through the North River Youth Council

#FIVEFASTFACTS CAMPAIGN
Lauren is the creator of the #FiveFastFacts campaign, a social media campaign that seeks to increase student enrollment, promote vertical integration, and combat negative stereotypes.

#ICHOOSE CAMPAIGN
Lauren is the creator of the #IChoose campaign, a social media campaign that highlights why students, teachers, and parents choose to attend, work at, or send their children to the great neighborhood schools on Chicago’s northwest side.

THE FRIENDS OF ROOSEVELT HIGH SCHOOL & MORE
Lauren is a founding member and is the former Chair of the Friends of Roosevelt High School. Since its founding in May 2018, the Friends of Roosevelt High School has raised over $17,500 to benefit the students, teachers, staff, and leadership at Roosevelt High School. Under Lauren’s guidance, the group hast hosted several community-wide cultivation events, including the annual Roosevelt Rising fundraiser which celebrates the past, present, and future of Roosevelt High School.

Lauren previously represented Albany Park Multicultural Academy as a community member of their Local School Council, and was a member of the West River Park Neighbors, a group committed to strengthening the bonds between neighbors.
